Ghana and the Rawlings Factor

The author aims at explaining the role of Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings in Ghana’s political economy. The book presents an easy to read account of events that led to the Rawlings’ ascent to power. The first was in 1979 as the head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council and sought to clean up the Ghanaian army and society and the second was in 1981 as the head of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) that sought to cause a social change. The book also account for Rawlings’ participation in the 1992 elections, his subsequent win and his heading of Ghana’s fourth republic.
