Written by ten academics, all of whom for some time were with the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, the book assesses the performance of Ghana as a liberal state between the years of 1993 to 2003. The authors tackles issues ranging from the promotion and protection of human rights; the relevance of developmental leadership for sustainable economic growth; importance of balancing welfare with market demands, institutions and its implications on democracy; political leadership; conflict resolution; security issues and civil-military relations; organised labour; foreign policy and economic diplomacy, and the participation of women in local and national level politics as it pertains to the terrain in question.
