Michael Walling, Artistic Director of Border Crossings theatre company, interviews Ghanaian author Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo about her play "The Dilemma of a Ghost". Aidoo describes how the idea for the play came to be and how she conceptualized the central relationship of the play early on. She admits that tackling an interracial relationship would have been too easy, so she chose an African-and-Diasporan union. Prof. Aidoo describes her surprise at realizing after reading various postcolonial critics, that she is one of only a few African writers who repeatedly tackle slavery in their work. She suggests that until both Africans and the children of African exiles engage these issues openly and honestly, they will continue to haunt us as a people.
