Summary of Article , 2001

Traditional theatre and folk media which includes dance, drama, song, storytelling and music have a huge role to play in HIV and AIDS prevention and the reduction of new infections. Using elements of traditional theatre and folklore media has been effective as a way for communicating behavioural change as they capture the imagination; are highly participatory and well known by the community members. Theatre for Communication Implementation and Development is one group in Ghana using invisible theatre to communicate messages about HIV and AIDS, family planning and breastfeeding. They have also used radio drama and puppetry. Using theatre and drama for health communication has been effective because this method is affordable, accessible and highly enjoyable to community members.
